Why isn't it real anymore?

Since I won't be here tomorrow, I thought I would write a quick post tonight before I go to bed, so that you'll have something to read from me tomorrow. :) Yes, you are all very special to me and I wanted to do this - just for ya'll! :)
Well, this is something that I thought would make a good post. It happened last evening while I was mixing together some frozen orange juice (you know, that you buy in this cardboard "cans") and water for supper. I happened to mention to Mother how orange juice is my favorite juice. "Yes, I know," she told me with a smile. I guess I've mentioned that a few times. :)
"I don't know what my favorite juice is," Mother said absently.
"Do you like grape?" I asked, whilst continuing to stir.
"Yes, but only if it's real."
That phrase made me stop for a moment. "Only if it's real". Mother didn't meant to make a fantastic statement at all...she just non-challantly meant it. (Does that make sense?) "Only if it's real". In other words, "there are grape juices that aren't real". I know this topic is very...strange and rare, but it just got me thinking that how does it come so easy to say something like that? How much of the world that we know today, is real? How much of it is not real? Over the years, people have invented new kinds of this and new ways of doing that, until we don't really know if something is natural or not. Today, when we're walking through a grocery store shopping, we are constantly looking at the ingredients before placing it in our carts. How much of the food we eat is real? Do you ever wonder what something really is if it doesn't say "All Natural" on it? Back in the "olden days" (I love that term! :), there used to be just ONE store (usually referred to as a mercantile, trading post, etc. - where you could get just about any *necessity*), just ONE doctor (who was usually trained in most of the different fields of live (to put it bluntly), etc.), just ONE of everything necessary. And I'm not saying that it's wrong that we have expanded so much in our knowledge of (i.e.) sickness or food health, but I think that there would be a *lot* less stress in our world today if we didn't have as many new gadgets to worry about! And no, I'm not one of those old-fashioned-get-real freaks...although I do wish that a lot of our world today would go back to those plain, simple lives that our ancestors had...I'm just sharing a fact with ya'll that I had the other day regarding all of this. :) What's your opinion? Please state any disapproving comments with love and gentleness. :)
Hope to come back and see lots of comments tomorrow!

Blessings,

Wow...SUPER cool post. That is so true. Can you believe how far we've come? (that said in a bad sense as well as in a good) Can you imagine what a woman would say from the "olden-times" (LOVE THAT PHRASE TOO! ;) if she came and saw everything here?

Great post.

Bekah

Oh, and that picture is insanely awesome. Was it you who took it? If so, what kind of camera do you use?

I was looking at your sidebar--you type 159 words per minute? :0

That's crazy, girl! I can only type 109--and that with effort. ^^

Good Morning Raquel,
All my life, my momma has given great effort and worked hard to feed us "normal" food. We aren't "Certified Organic only" nuts, but we have always done our best to take care of our "temples" by eating whole foods, fruits, vegtables, grains etc. The large majority of our foods we make from scratch, along with whole-wheat bread(SO good!)
I should add, that momma isn't militant and we do eat more sweets than we should...All these home-made delicacies that Jenna, Abigail, and I whip up are so addicting =) But...We are...ummm...Preserving a slice of americana, right?! The culinary arts are a quickly fleeting trend in america these days and we just do our best to preserve them...(much to the benefit of a sweet tooth)

Enough babbling! Have a great day!
Josh

Bekah~
*haha* I loved all the comments you left me! :) I'm glad that you thought this post was so good! Today (throughout my busyness) I was pondering back on what I had written in this post and wondering if anyone had commented. Thank you for all the comments! :) I was excited to read my '5 thoughts'. :)
To answer you questions...
Actually, no, I didn't take the picture...unfortunately. I actually didn't have time to. I just looked up "glass of orange juice" online and thought this one was neat. Glad you liked it! :) I'm actually planning on trying to take an orange juice photo and enter it this summer. :)
Yup! 159 words a minute! :) Yeah, pretty crazy...good job on your 109! :)

Josh~ Thank you for stopping by! Everything you said in your comment goes for me too! :) Although we aren't "organic only" nuts, we do try to keep out the sweets - but yes! I totally understand about the yummy goodies that you guys have every once in awhile. :) Totally with you there!

Blessings to you both!

Hi Raquel, :)

Growing up I never thought of certain foods not being "real." I just assumed everything was. As I've gotten older my mother has tried to find out what is and what isn't "real" to keep us healthy. I'm amazed at what I've learned about certain foods. Your post really reminded me of me! lol Thank you for sharing :)

God bless you!

*Sigh* It would be so lovely to return to those "olden days." I too share your same thoughts. In fact, I am trying to return to a more simple lifestyle, namely in the things I eat. There's something so appealing to all of that, isn't there?

Love,
Lina
